Workstations are the single biggest furniture decision most Dubai offices make — they set the density of the floor, the daily comfort of every employee, and a surprising share of the fit-out budget. Get the sizing wrong and you either waste rent on half-empty space or pack people in so tight they can't focus.

1. Start with the desk size, not the room
An office workstation isn't one shape. The right size depends on the role:
- 1200 × 600 mm — call centres, data entry, hot-desks. Compact, high density.
- 1400 × 700 mm — the standard for most staff: laptop or monitor, documents, a bit of elbow room.
- 1600 × 800 mm — managers, designers, dual-monitor setups.

2. Think in clusters, not single desks
Workstations are almost always laid out in clusters — groups of 2, 4, or 6 desks sharing a spine and cable management. Clusters matter because they decide two things at once: how cables are hidden, and how many people fit per square metre.
- 2-person face-to-face — small teams, meeting-heavy roles.
- 4-person cluster — the workhorse layout for most SMEs.
- 6-person cluster — dense floors, uniform teams.
Add a screen divider between facing desks for a little privacy and acoustic calm — it's the cheapest upgrade that visibly changes how a floor feels.
3. How many seats actually fit?
A rough rule for planning a Dubai open-plan floor: budget around 4.5–6 m² per workstation once you include the desk, chair, circulation space, and a share of walkways. So:

4. The chair is half the workstation
A workstation is a desk and a chair — and the chair is what your team actually feels for eight hours. For shared operational seating you don't need executive leather; you need a height-adjustable task chair with a breathable mesh back and a firm five-star base.

5. Ready stock vs made-to-order
This is where timelines are won or lost in UAE fit-outs:
- Ready-stock components (standard desks, screens, chairs, mobile drawers) ship and install fast — days, not weeks. Ideal when a lease start date is fixed.
- Made-to-order workstations let you match an exact finish, size or bench configuration, but add lead time. Worth it for headquarters and client-facing floors.
